Where else can you find so many books and find them for so little?
As someone who both buys books on eBay and has sold books on eBay, I can tell you that it is a vibrant marketplace, filled with bargains and backed by a cadre of very reliable, independent sellers many of whom have just what want.
Yes, you can pick up current titles at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your local bookstore if your community still happens to have one, but there is a huge aftermarket for books, and if you are looking for something that ranges from recent to antique, eBay is the place to shop.
Take a look at the eBay categories on the left under 'Available On eBay Now' and you will find everything from the usual fiction and nonfiction to textbooks and education, from cookbooks to antiquarian and collectible books, from children's books to audio books, and even magazine back issues.
Since eBay is a competitive marketplace, it is also a very good place to find bargains. On eBay, it's easy to pick up hard cover books in new or near new condition for well below paper back prices. Books at prices starting at $1 or so are common. And if they are listed in an eBay seller's online store or as a 'Buy It Now' item, that, plus shipping and handling, is all you will pay.
Books are sold on eBay in three different ways, and how you purchase them is up to you.
First, of course, is the auction. These listings begin at a low or reasonable price that may rise depending on the interest the title carries among eBay shoppers at that time, generally seven days.
Next are the 'Buy It Now' instant purchase items. You will find these among the auction listings. If you definitely want a book and don't want to spend time watching and bidding and possibly losing it at the end, 'Buy It Now' is the way to go.
Finally, there are eBay store items. These are also 'Buy It Now' offers but do not show up with auction listings the way the regular 'Buy It Now' items do. They may or may not sow up on a title or author search, either, if many copies are available as regular listings. You can, however, choose to see all of the store items if you prefer.

eBay keeps tight control of its sellers, and seller feedback insures that transaction are monitored by the eBay community. Members experiences are there for all to see and are a great incentive for sellers that want to remain members to advertise and sell ethically. Since most eBay purchases are now made with PayPal -- you can pay through PayPal with your bank card without becoming a PayPal member -- your eBay purchase is automatically protected through their buyer protection program.
While independent sellers also sell books on AbeBooks and Amazon, with eBay you will almost always see photographs of the actual books being sold and not just a brief description of condition. This can be very important, especially if buying antiquarian or collectible books.
